Letter of Invitation:
Dear authors, researchers, and thinkers,
This is a letter of invitation to a conference taking place
in Miami, FL on “Deterrents of Democracy in Iran” and in general the Middle
East. To hold such a conference on democracy requires no explanation. The theme
of this conference was persistently the ideas of late Dr. Keshavarz Sadr, one
of the most prominent Iranian anthropologists. It was his contention that
deterrents to democracy in Iran and the Middle East have to be studied in a
multidisciplinary endeavor. In this light the Iranian Cultural Society of
Miami, Florida, has set out to organize a conference to address pertaining
issues.
Our board of editors takes democracy and its components,
such as equality and freedom, in their broad and different senses, within and
beyond politics, and welcome papers on any aspect of this theme and the
significant relations which they may have with other issues.
The themes and topics are numerous indeed. Here are some
examples: What is democracy, and which version suits Iran? Whether and how far
democracy in Iran has progressed since the Constitutional Revolution of 1906;
Democracy, fairness, and justice; Problems and deterrents of democracy in Iran
sociologically, anthropologically, historically and otherwise; Democracy and
modernization in Iran; The rights of minorities in Iran; History of tolerance
and lack of it in Iran; Democracy in Iran in relation to globalization;
Democracy and environmental issues. Furthermore, if authors choose to they may
submit papers that pertain to the same issues in relation to the entire region
of the Middle East.
With regard to what hinders the development of democracy in
Iran and the Middle East, the following is a list of categories to consider.
Some contributors, especially from other academic disciplines, will have
categories of their own to add.

capitalism

underdevelopment
7. Lack of a
viable private sector in the economy

11. Feudal
relationships
12. Oil economy
14. Imperialism and
dependency
15. Overpopulation
16. Lack of resources
(reliable infrastructure)
17. Arts and Literature
18. Law and Law Making
The language of presentations and papers are entirely left
to the authors. Conference will be in both Persian and English as a preference.
A paper is normally not longer than 7,500 words. Also, two hundred-fifty words
constitute the maximum length of an abstract. A selection of the papers will be
published as a book with the same title and subtitle as those of the
conference. Non-Iranians are welcome to contribute papers. The book will be in
English, and published by St. Thomas University as an academic publisher, for a
number of reasons. a) It will raise the standard of the book, as such
publishers demand minimum originality and competence (empirical and
theoretical) from the author, b) Being in English, it will be good for Iran,
creating a rational dialog and better understanding between Iran and the
international community, c) It will make its publication in Persian, which we
intend to do afterward, more of a success, because Iranian readers would know
that the book has the advantage of having already proved that it makes sense
internationally.

برگزاری کنفرانسی پیرامون " موانع تحقق دمکراسی در ایران " ارسال
میگردد
برگزاری چنین کنفرانسی
نیازمند توجیح و تفسیر نخواهد داشت .
دمکراسی مفاهیمی عمیقی همچون برابری و ازادی را بهمراه
دارد که با مسائل سیاسی – اجتماعی
متعددی پیوند خورده است .
ما ایرانیان کلیه مسایل
اجتماعی را فقط از دیدگاه سیاسی مورد ارزیابی قرار میدهیم در حالیکه تحقق
دمکراسی در جامعه
از منظرهای متنوعی قابل
بررسی و ارزیابی می باشد .
بطور مثال : تعریف دمکراسی
که بتواند متناسب با شرایط جامعه ایران تحقق یابد چگونه خواهد بود.
انقلاب مشروطیت که در سال
1906 صورت گرفت چه پیشرفت و دستاوردی در جامعه ایران داشته است .
دمکراسی در مفهوم عدالت
اجتماعی چگونه ارزشیابی میگردد و عوامل عمده بازدارنده دمکراسی در ایران از منظر
جامعه شناسی-
انسان شناسی – تاریخی و مدرنیته
چگونه میتواند مورد سنجش قرار گیرد .
دمکراسی که با اکثریت جامعه محقق میگردد
چگونه میتواند حقوق اقلییتها یا حقوق معلولان را
در ایران مورد توجه قرار دهد.
مسائل تاریخی گذشته و عدم تحمل ان در
ایران – مباحث جهانی شدن – موضوع محیط زیست
وسایر موارد همانند را می توان ازچالش های
دمکراسی در ایران برشمرد
از نگاه جامعه شناسانه میتوان لیستی از
موانع ایجاد دمکراسی در ایران بشرح ذیل ارائه نمود که
این لیست می تواند با همکاری محققان – پزوهشگران و
دانشگاهیان به صورت
تکمیل تری در اید .

10- روابط جنسیتی بر مبانی اسلامی .

12- اقتصاد نفتی
13- امپریالیسم و وابستگی

معرفی اولیه مقاله 750 کلمه
وارسال خلاصه مقاله حداکثر 2500 کلمه تعیین گردیده است .
مجموعه مقالات در کتابی تحت
عنوان موانع در ایران به زبان انگلیسی به
چاپ خواهد رسید .
چاپ مجموعه مقالات به زبان
انگلیسی به دلایل زیر می باشد:
1- افزایش
استاندارد کتاب بدلیل درخواست ناشراز سوابق نویسنده و اصلی و جدید
بودن
مقاله خواهد بود.
2- زبان انگلیسی فرصتی بیشتر برای تبادل اندیشه بین ایرانیان
و جامعه بین الملل فراهم می سازد .
3- انتشار این کتاب به زبان انگلیسی از اعتبار بیشتری بین ایرانیان
برخوردار خواهد شد زیرا
اعتبار بین المللی خود را عملا اثبات
کرده است
